Great news for new and existing businesses with up to 249 staff member. You can get your hands on Broadband connection voucher grants worth up to £3,000 for SMEs. The downside is you have to play a postcode lottery as it is on available  in 22 cities.

Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) – part of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport wants to drive productivity, innovation and growth by offering between £200 and £3000. To apply to one of the 22 cities operating the scheme, you need to get a quote (some cities require more than 1 quote) for your broadband connection from a registered suppliers and fill in an application. Your business connection must be:
  • provided by a registered supplier
  • at an eligible postcode
  • for an eligible business or charity and meet the improvement required
  • When you’ve had your connection installed, you pay the VAT and any costs not covered by the voucher. The city pays the grant directly to the supplier.

You must pay the ongoing monthly costs and any VAT charged. You can apply through your city’s web page and choose a supplier from the list of broadband suppliers registered with the scheme. Connection Vouchers are available to SMEs in 22 cities nationwide: Aberdeen Belfast Birmingham Bradford Brighton and Hove Bristol Cambridge Cardiff Derby Derry-Londonderry Edinburgh Leeds London Manchester Newcastle upon Tyne Newport Nottingham – you must supply 2 supplier quotes Oxford Perth Portsmouth Salford York

Update: The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has published new figures on its Broadband Connection Voucher scheme, revealing that over the lifetime of the programme, over 55,000 SMEs around the UK took advantage of the grants.
